The VL53L1X breakout adds optical distance readings to a compatible controller through I2C. SparkFun lists a nominal measurement range from about 40 mm to 4 m and a programmable field of view, giving builders useful settings to explore when detecting objects. The board fits lessons on sensor placement and ranging behavior as well as custom robot prototypes. Treat range and performance figures as supplier specifications to test in your own environment. Remove the protective liner before use and plan the bus layout when more than one fixed-address sensor is required.
